Pre-Kindergarten

The Four Year Olds

Our teachers offer guidance and support to the Pre-K group students as they learn the skills and show progress in their abilities that will play an important role in their success in Kindergarten  year and beyond. Pre-K group teachers help students to learn and follow limits and expectations, improve their self-regulatory skills, learn to verbally express their feelings, solve problems, establish and practice consistent routines, promote self-help skills and pro-social behaviors: team work, cooperation, leadership and compassion.

4-5 year olds become more creative in their make-believe play, they assign the roles in the game they are playing, start using props creatively, they learn to play cooperatively and can follow rules of a board or card game.

Our Pre-K students enjoy performing, they can sing, recite poems from memory, they can tell stories, repeat and extend rhythm patterns using percussion instruments, dance repetitive dance moves.

They love listening to stories being read, they learn to predict the story events, name characters and identify problems and solutions. Our Pre-K students improve counting skills and begin to understand that numbers represent quantity, they are able to match numerals and sets of objects, to extend and create patterns, to complete and read simple graphs.

Our 4-5 year olds practice letter recognition, phonics, they start writing some letters to represent words and write some words to represent the ideas in their journals.
They create more intricate buildings with blocks, constructor games, art projects. They are able to cut with scissors, mold and sculpt playdough, draw and paint representative pictures.

Their coordination, agility, movement and balancing skills increase as well. They can hop, skip, run, throw and catch ball, and play some competitive games.
